In addition to publishing its own list of programs, Clarity works with other English language providers to help implement ICT elements into their projects.
The Ministry of Education Malaysia
Malaysia’s MoE contracted Clarity to set up and administer a pilot study for introducing ICT materials into secondary schools across the country. Following the success of the pilot, four Clarity programs were integrated into almost a thousand schools across the country in three phases. Clarity organised regional training sessions and trained almost 2,000 teachers.
Peacekeeping English Project
At any one time there are around 80,000 military and police personnel on UN peacekeeping deployment, all of whom have to communicate with their international counterparts in English. The British Council runs Peacekeeping English Projects in 17 countries, and in 2008 decided to broaden their reach with online ICT materials aimed specifically at Peacekeeping. They chose Clarity to provide all technical and editorial aspects for the project which was completed in December 2008, three months ahead of schedule.
Beijing Olympics 2008
In 2008 the Young Advocates Project was set up for young people training for and competing in the Paralympics in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. One strand of this ongoing project is English language training, enabling athletes from different countries to communicate with each other. Clarity was contracted to create an online learning environment and to design ELT materials.
Cambridge University Press
Cambridge’s best selling ELT book is English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy. They decided that the product should be enhanced with the addition of a CD-Rom, which would also be made available to schools in a network edition. Cambridge chose Clarity, and over five separate projects a series of prototypes and ‘Bonus Extra’ CD-Roms became the full ICT support materials for English Grammar in Use and Advanced Grammar in Use.
Macmillan Education
In 2006 Macmillan published a new high school English course, Synergy, for East Asia and South America. An important sales element was an ICT package for teachers, enabling them to create both print and online materials. Macmillan contracted Clarity to produce the Extraciser, a CD-Rom – Web hybrid attached to the Teacher’s Book.
The British Council
Over several years the British Council developed an IELTS self-study package. The project was in danger of failing because of shortcomings in the software design. Clarity was contracted to convert more than 120 hours of content to Author Plus format, running on networks and online. The project was completed to time and budget and resulted in Road to IELTS, which by 2010 will be rolled out to well over a million candidates.
