About Clarity

Overview

History

Clarity was set up in 1992 primarily to develop ELT software for schools and universities. The company’s first program, Tense Buster Lower Intermediate, was published on a floppy disk in 1993. Since then, Clarity has developed more than 25 programs in eight series covering language areas from grammar and reading to business English and exam preparation.

In 1998 the company started a distribution division which represents specialist publishers of software for English language. Clarity’s catalogue, the Clarity Guide to ELT Software, is published every April and includes high quality programs developed in countries across the English-speaking world.

The third strand of Clarity’s operation is to deliver publishing services for other organisations. The first development project, in 1993, was the Automatic Exercise Generator for Oxford University Press; the most recent, in 2009, is Call Center Communication Skills for Future Perfect Business English Specialists.

Clarity now publishes programs to meet the needs of the company’s broad range of clients. These vary from a reading program installed on a standalone computer in a school in Cambodia to a SCORM-compliant authoring system deployed by a leading multinational to tens of thousands of its staff.

Operating from its own offices in Hong Kong, Clarity delivers interactive English language materials to millions of students worldwide.

Values

Teaching. Please feel free to contact us to discuss our teaching approach in detail. Very briefly, we believe in a guided discovery approach where teaching materials encourage learners to think for themselves, and then help them confirm or correct their theories. We believe that learning materials should be genuinely interesting, engaging and relevant. And we are convinced that technology can enhance learning, provided the balance between pedagogy and technology is correct.

Support. Clarity’s main interest is seeing our programs being used effectively in schools and colleges. We have 17 years of experience in this – but it is still a learning process for us! We therefore take a great interest in how different institutions use our programs and encourage our clients to contact us to discuss implementation in their schools and integration into their curriculum.

Technical. Clarity’s technical support pledge:
My aim is to ensure you have smooth, trouble-free use of any software you purchase from Clarity. I therefore guarantee to find a fast and effective solution to any technical problems related to Clarity software, or provide a full refund.
Dr Adrian Raper, Technical Director

Quality. At Clarity, we have a passion for quality in every aspect of our operation: editorial, design, technical, production, sales and marketing, and accounts and dispatch. Our goal is for our clients to be completely satisfied by our products and services. If for any reason you are not, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
