Clarity's Practical Placement Test is a quick, convenient and economical tool for placing students at their approximate level of English. The test is in four parts: vocabulary, grammar, listening (each at two levels) and self-assessment. The language sections are built from an item bank of multiple choice and gap fill questions. Question selection within each section is random (within certain parameters), so that each test is different, increasing security, and effectively eliminating copying.

The listening section tests not only the ability to hear and recognise utterances, but also the communicative intent. The self-assessment section at the end refines the scores students have achieved in the earlier sections by asking them "Can do" statements based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The result is a single score placing the student in one of six bands, from Beginner (A1) to Advanced (C2).

The test is administered online and can be used pre-course from home, or, more securely, on computers in your centre. Results are delivered through Results Manager, enabling teachers and administrators see how candidates perform in each category, in addition to the overall score.
