When we released Tense Buster V9 it included an update to some common software that is not compatible with some earlier versions of other programs. The Tense Buster CD installation will automatically update the other programs, but if you install them after Tense Buster you may get this effect.
Please visit Upgrade issues to download a fix for each program. You may also repeat the Tense Buster installation after all other titles are installed.
Clarity network programs (including English Grammar in Use and Advanced Grammar in Use) are packaged for delivery using a tool called ZINC. This tool uses a method of linking to the Windows system files that can clash with the latest applications that use the .NET framework on Win XP. Examples that we know about are Office 2007, some MSN versions and Windows Defender. This is the sort of error message you will see:
Executable 'C:\Clarity\TenseBuster\Start.exe' had the following unrecoverable error:
Couldn't find library MSVCR80.dll (required by C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\OFFICE12\xxxxxxx)
Please ensure that it is installed
The following document and fix provide a temporary solution to this problem.
This is a bug in one release of Adobe's Flash Player (9.0.45.0). Even if you type quite slowly some letters just disappear.
Fix: One possibility is to use Firefox instead of IE as this does not have the same problem. To keep using IE you will need a later version of the Flash Player. The latest version solves this problem which you can download from www.adobe.com
This applies to the International and Indian English versions of Business Writing. The index of all exercises has a mistake that stops Results Manager from correctly reading the name of the exercise.
Fix: Download the following ZIP file and extract it to your main Clarity folder (usually C:\Clarity). This will save a new version of the index file to C:\Clarity\Content\BusinessWriting\Courses\InternationalEng\menu.xml. Even if you have been using the program for a while, none of your records will be lost and they will all display correctly after this fix.
Our best guess to the cause of this problem is that it is a combination of a firewall and Flash Player 9. We have not yet solved this bug. It has happened with Tense Buster and Author Plus. If you find it please contact us.
Please tell us your version of Windows, browser and the exact Flash player version. Thanks.
Network version:
The problem is probably happening because the password field of the account you want to add is left empty. If you add a teacher or student with a password the problem will be solved. This is true even if you have set the login options to not require the password.
Solution:
One way is to add passwords for everyone. Once someone is added you can click on their name and use the Details function to remove the password. An easier way though is to use Tense Buster (or any other Clarity programs) to add new users. In Login Options within Results Manager, set Is password required to No. Select Allow unregistered users to Yes and click on the Advanced button and choose just Name. When you start Tense Buster, type the new student name and click New User. Once all your names are in, you can switch off the Allow unregistered users function to lock down the program.
Fix:
We have released a new version of Results Manager (2.4) that fixes this bug. Please contact us for an upgrade.
