Yes. You author your content as usual with Author Plus. Then you export it to SCORM. This creates the shared content object, SCO, that you then import into your LMS. Again, the SCO is just a set of pointers to the full program and content - so the LMS will link to your copy of Author Plus when the learner wants to run your content.

Whilst there are no hard rules, it seems to be a good idea to split SCOs into Author Plus units. This lets you group material together, whilst still preserving the goals of reuse and keeping everything manageable. So if you have created a whole course in Author Plus, you might turn it into a number of SCOs - which you can then import into different sections of your LMS-based course.

In Author Plus, you have an export feature that creates a ZIP file with all the content of your course that you can download to your computer. We encourage you to do this often to minimise the risk of losing work - whether Author Plus is running from Clarity's servers or your own.

Our server backs up your content every day (if it changes) and we will be very happy to create a ZIP file for you so that you have your own copy. Please send your request for this to our support team (support@clarityenglish.com).

Any student that you publish the course to will be able to see the materials and download any worksheets that you include. Other teachers in your account will also be able to do this, unless you block their access with the privacy options. Members of the public will not have accounts, and so will not be able to log in to see your course.

6. Author Plus puts all courses from all my teachers in one place. Can I split it up so that teachers only see their own courses and their learners only see these courses?

Whilst Author Plus usually directs everybody to one place to share content, it is possible to use one copy of the program and create accounts that separate each teacher's courses. After you have installed Author Plus, you can create a teacher's account in Results Manager to enable teachers to create private courses and direct their learners to these courses.
Results Manager uses a feature called hidden content to make this easy. Author Plus also lets you choose the privacy options so that
a) only you can see the course whilst it is being created,
b) only your group of students can see the course, or
c) you can open it to all students in your school.

Course privacy settings
When you create an Author Plus course, you can choose whether it is published or not, and who has access to it.

Privacy options

If you leave the access or privacy setting as 'Private' then you are the only person who can see this course. Perfect for whilst you are creating it.

If you set access to 'Group' then only the students in your group can see this course. This might be good while you are trialling a course, or if you created it specifically for your students.

If you want all students to be able to access the course, you need to set the access to 'Public'.

You can also use hidden content in Results Manager to hide a course or part of a course from a group of students. Click here for the Results Manager manual and go to Controlling access to content (page 18) to find out about the hidden content function.

Yes, you can embed the IP address and/or the referrer address into the licence and thus limit access to the online system to your computers.

There is a very popular protection tool called EZProxy that a lot of libraries use. This lets a student log in to the library website from anywhere, and then the Clarity program can be set to run only if it is called from EZProxy. This opens the program to all students who can log in to your website, and blocks it to all others. Click here for more information.

Please contact us (support@clarityenglish.com) for help in setting this up.

One of the attractions of an online licence is that your learners can use the materials from anywhere on the Internet. But how can you make sure that other people are not also using these resources and taking licences away from your learners?

With a Learner Tracking licence this is not really an issue as you will give your learners a name and / or ID and password so that they authenticate themselves when they log in. After learners leave your institution, it is a good idea to remove their names from Results Manager so that they no longer have access.

For an Anonymous Access licence, there is no login. If your institution has a website that requires a login from students, then that website can have a link, or links, to the Clarity programs. To make sure that only students who can access the website can use the link, you can set up IP authentication. The most common software for this is EZProxy, but there are other similar tools. The proxy server acts as if there is one single IP address for all users who click on the link. The Clarity software can limit access to just this IP address.

If there is no such tool available, URL referrer access can be used to limit access to the titles to students who come from a particular webpage.

If you want to limit access to a specific room or building, an IP range or ranges can be used as well.

To arrange this kind of security for your account, please contact us (support@clarityenglish.com) with details of your IP, or with any questions you have.
